Quilled bracelets

I was asked to make ten bracelets using red and white colours for a college reunion. Once I decided on the small unit of the bracelet it was all repetition and so it was really fun. I was not specified to make different designs but I made them all a bit different from each other.

Quilled jewellery

It has been so long since I last blogged and I though I should share some of the quilled jewellery that I have been making . I made this one on request from a friend to match her beautiful saree. The quilled elements are all tight coils, I rolled the two colour strips separately to find the exact length of each required to make the same sized tight coils and then cut a whole bunch of them to that length and rolled them. I also made matching earrings for this pendant. The beads are also paper , painted with acrylic gold colour.

This purple set is one of my very favourite , it turned out exactly as I had imagined  The one thing I hate about making jewellery is the sealing and varnishing part. I am always a bit nervous when I come to that part after making a beautiful piece. It is difficult to see  the beauty of rolled paper turn to something stiff and plastic ,  sometimes the colours too change drastically . I try making tight coils for most parts so that it is easy to seal and varnish.

More paper beads.

It is Golu time again, with Navarathri fast approaching . We ladies of our library have started work which will go on till the beginning of next month. I thought I would post some paper beads that I made some time ago and again take a break from blogging until after Navarathri. But then again if I happen to make anything nice with paper for the Golu  I will surely take time to post.

These beads are made out of metallic red colour paper rolled into a cone shape and then hand painted with acrylic gold  . The pendant is quilled with the same metallic paper. The tight coil at the center is also painted. This was made on request from a friend for her son's wedding as one of the many wedding day gifts for her daughter in law.

These paper beads are made from recycling a catalogue . I really enjoyed rolling these.

Paper quilled jewellery

I haven't posted here for a long while now but I have been posting some of my work on my page .While making quilled jewellery I try to use tight coils as much as I can for I find them more durable. For this set I  used both 5mm and 3mm  green colour strips , the 3mm strips are graduated. This set is made to order for a friend as a gift to her future daughter in law.
After quilling I rubbed acrylic gold colour paint randomly on the earrings and pendant and I was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful metallic look . I am making a green paper beaded necklace to go with the pendant to make it a complete paper set.  My elder son is now away in College at NIT , Trichy , It is so difficult not having him around. I even have him read my posts before publishing. He has been asking me why I haven't posted for so long , it seems he drops in here sometimes to see what I am doing. We are really proud that he is now in a very prestigious institution.

These awesome perfect round beads are from Janice Mae of paper beads .I won one of her weekly giveaways on her facebook page . Each week she announces a different prize for the participant with the highest likes. All you have to do to enter is  message her pictures of your work and she posts them in her page.

paper bead necklace

I want to share my latest obsession which is  making paper beads. I have been fascinated about them for a long time, but only recently found time to experiment with them. The yellow colour beads are made from cutting an yellow colour handmade paper, I had used some gold acrylic paint on the paper some time ago to use as background for a project . I did not use it then, but cutting the paper up and rolling  into beads with the gold colour showing here and there gives such a rich look. The beads for the pendant are made from some dark maroon pattern paper the center is quilled and painted with the same gold colour. All the beads are cone shape made from long right angled triangle paper strips.I know I have to learn a lot and there is a lot of room for improvement . I love to cut and roll paper and I am planning to experiment with more shapes.

Although I have not posted for a while I have been quilling a lot , I have been restocking my cards and earrings. I also took some time to open my online shop.

Thanks for stopping by , Have a great day.

Quilled earring tutorial

I was recently requested for a quilled earring tutorial from Vandana of Craftsia blog. This is a simple design made entirely out of tight coils. The colours used are silver and pink colour strips.

Take one silver(or any colour) strip and roll it around a pen or your tool to make a tight ring coil.

Pinch the ring coil on one side to make a tear drop shape , Repeat this step seven times.

Make a tight coil out of one silver strip ,first roll the strip with a needle or slotted tool and stick the end.

After these steps you will have seven tear drops and one tight coil

Stick all the elements together preferably on a plastic surface so that the flower can be lifted off the surface easily after drying.

Make tight coils with the pink colour strips ( I used half a strip for each tight coil). Then stick them together to make a flower .

Stick this pink flower on top of the silver flower. I also added a small punched circle to the back of the
earring to cover all the joints of the silver colour flower and to make the earring more sturdy

Repeat the entire process to make another to complete the pair . I added glue to the wrong side of the earrings to strengthen it .

I am working on a lot of cards but can't post until the end of this month. I am also trying to do my bit for our library's Navarathri Golu.

Thanks for stopping by , have a great day.

Red colour earrings for Pritesh's challenge.

This is what I got from Piyu, she kindly ordered them for me and got it shipped to me. These are somethings I had wanted for a long time. Though I have alternatives that I use, these are so compact and very useful. I really enjoyed online shopping and want to order all the other tools too ,including the curling coach.

Quilling for kids

This month on take a quill pill, it's quilling for kids.Your entry can be a card,   a tag, book mark , a frame or any such other of your choice  , with quilling on the given theme. Here's more on the challenge.
A card with a quilled clown was my first choice , I found this clown in the quilled creation gallery. The strips are hand cut and the sentiment hand written. This card is with my brother's son Rithesh.

Here's  a book mark with a quilled book worm I made some time ago for my son Abi.I found this book worm on a shopping bag from a popular store.

Gift tags with a quilled girl dress and a quilled dinosaur. The tags are now with two lovely kids in Ireland .

These quilled strawberry earrings- easily the  most popular among all the earrings I have made. I have lost count of the number of pairs I have made in the past few months. Little girls love them, with beads on them it looks really pretty. This pair is with Prisha. I have found it is so much more rewarding when quilling for kids, you get paid with hugs and kisses.

Thanks for stopping by, Have a great day.

Quilled earrings and a flower

This one is made from 3mm width purple and ivory crimped strips - I love to work with crimped strips .

The husked flower and crimped flower earrings are small and were made as a special request for small kids.

The crimped flowers are made from 3mm width blue pearl colour strips.

These brown crimped earrings ,for a chocolate lover perhaps? made from brown and metallic brown colour strips.

This is  my favourite , tight coil earrings made from red and blue strips.

QUILLED FLOWER-

With such encouragement from white Racoon I made this quilled flower to enter the Homyachok quilling challenge #1. The petals are made from eccentric circles. For the center fringed flower I have used the same crepe paper I used to make my crepe paper rosettes. The paper is duplex with yellow on one side and very light yellow on the other. The background for this flower is a handmade paper to give the illusion of water.

Thanks for stopping by, have a creative day.
