Quilled Lilac

Lilacs always fascinate me. To achieve the layered effect of the flowers in quilling is ever a challenge. I have quilled lilacs before the variation here is I used tight coils for the petals.
All the strips are three millimetres in lavender , yellow and two shades of green.
I rolled an entire pack of 100 strips of lavender to make exactly 25 small flowers. I arranged and then stuck them to give a layered finish.
Thanks for stopping by, Have a great day.

First anniversary gift.

It is quite sometime since my last post. I have been busy with many things like summer camp at our library and learning calligraphy. I have also been quilling but not much.
This is the first card this year and I realised how much I love making cards when I was working on it.
This card was made as a first anniversary gift for a wonderful couple, Ravishankar and Suchitra requested by the girl's mother. She gave me complete freedom to choose what to make . I started the card with the idea of lots of roses and a couple of butterflies, this is how the card turned out. The card is pretty big almost A4 size. I used 1 cm A4 strips for the roses and 3mm strips for the rest of the card.
Thanks for stopping by , Do let me know what you think of this card in the comment section.

Quilled Eiffel Tower

It took me entire two days to complete this Tower. It is part of a big frame work , the finished final work is still in progress. It has a lot of elements and I hope they all come together. I printed a free clip art of the tower and worked over it . I stuck two black strips length wise and let it dry and cut them into small bits as required for the making of the Tower.

I made another heart full of roses for the same project.  Here is the tutorial I used. Tutorial

Althought the final project is not complete I couldn't resist posting the Eiffel tower here.
Thanks for stopping by , Have a great day.

crepe paper rosettes

I have never used such brilliant colours on my card!  Kavitha is having a long celebration on her blog and I wanted to take a little part in it. For this card my starting point was a card of Kavi which she had sent me with her candy.I link this card to her Inspirational challenge .
The brilliant colours I have used is inspired by ICR colour challenge I love bright colours and really enjoyed putting to use some of the stuff I never thought I would use. The back ground paper is from a hand made paper pack I got from Bangalore -a very bright yellow. The crepe paper rosettes are handmade and there is also a quilled flower.I have also used quilled letterings "Be Happy" with dark blue quilling strips, hope it shows in the picture.

      Crepe flower rosettes:-

Cut two strips of 1cm width crepe paper.

                   Accordion fold the strips.

Take a circle of paper and spread glue on the edges of the circle and stick the strip slowly gathering the folds as you glue all around the circle.

Cut off the extra strip of paper and stick the end.

Apply glue in the center and glue the second strip same way as the first.

I stuck a big bead in the center.

Thanks for stopping by, Have a lovely day.

Red Roses

I love making paper flowers and roses are my favourite. I  made these roses with red colour half inch strips.

The paper for the background is from my handmade paper pack. I liked the texture of the paper  and roses was the first thing that came to my mind. As I finished this card , I was surprised I haven't filled up the entire card like I am used to . I liked this arrangement of roses and  with this background I felt it best to keep it simple and with some difficulty I avoided scrolls .

For each flower cut a half inch wide strip in to quadrilaterals as shown.
Ten petals make a flower.

Take one piece of paper and cut on the narrow side of the quadrilateral as shown .

Curl the sides of the larger side on both ends with a needle.

Apply little glue on one half of the slit end.

Overlap and stick the slit ends one on top of the other .You have one petal.

Take a small circle  of paper and stick the petal as shown

Stick five petals to form the outer circle of the petals.

Next stick the other five petal inside (or even four if you don't want it to be too crowded) and then roll a loose coil of the same colour with 5mm paper strip and stick it to the center of the rose.

Thanks for stopping by, have a creative day.

paper roses

I have used chart papers to make these flowers , The leaves are artificial.
I was surprised at the result. these flowers are too elegant considering how easy it is to make.
We don't even have to be precise, while cutting out the shapes. It gives it  a natural look.

My friends ask me how I did these flowers without a punch so I thought of adding a tutorial.

Cut three circles of equal size.

Fold the circle into half , then again fold it into one fourth and again into one eighth.Repeat this with all the three circles.

Cut all the three folded circles into a petal shape as shown in the picture.

Unfold the three folded circles now they will look like this.

Cut one petal out of the first circle, two petals out of the second circle and three petals out of the third.

Apply glue on top of one end petal as shown.

Stick the petal on the other end on top of the glued petal. Repeat this with all the three circle.

Curl the petals with a pen or a refill like I have, repeat this with all the three circles as well as the petals that we have cut.

Just apply glue inside and stick them all together as shown.

You get a beautiful rose, this way we can make roses of any size.

tissue paper carnations.

I taught tissue paper carnations to last year summer camp students , this is a variation from that. I liked this tutorial, adding colour to the tissue paper is a nice idea.
