Paper quilled jewellery

I haven't posted here for a long while now but I have been posting some of my work on my page .While making quilled jewellery I try to use tight coils as much as I can for I find them more durable. For this set I  used both 5mm and 3mm  green colour strips , the 3mm strips are graduated. This set is made to order for a friend as a gift to her future daughter in law.
After quilling I rubbed acrylic gold colour paint randomly on the earrings and pendant and I was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful metallic look . I am making a green paper beaded necklace to go with the pendant to make it a complete paper set.  My elder son is now away in College at NIT , Trichy , It is so difficult not having him around. I even have him read my posts before publishing. He has been asking me why I haven't posted for so long , it seems he drops in here sometimes to see what I am doing. We are really proud that he is now in a very prestigious institution.

These awesome perfect round beads are from Janice Mae of paper beads .I won one of her weekly giveaways on her facebook page . Each week she announces a different prize for the participant with the highest likes. All you have to do to enter is  message her pictures of your work and she posts them in her page.

Thanks for stopping by , Have a creative day.

Quilled earring tutorial

I was recently requested for a quilled earring tutorial from Vandana of Craftsia blog. This is a simple design made entirely out of tight coils. The colours used are silver and pink colour strips.

Take one silver(or any colour) strip and roll it around a pen or your tool to make a tight ring coil.

Pinch the ring coil on one side to make a tear drop shape , Repeat this step seven times.

Make a tight coil out of one silver strip ,first roll the strip with a needle or slotted tool and stick the end.

After these steps you will have seven tear drops and one tight coil

Stick all the elements together preferably on a plastic surface so that the flower can be lifted off the surface easily after drying.

Make tight coils with the pink colour strips ( I used half a strip for each tight coil). Then stick them together to make a flower .

Stick this pink flower on top of the silver flower. I also added a small punched circle to the back of the
earring to cover all the joints of the silver colour flower and to make the earring more sturdy

Repeat the entire process to make another to complete the pair . I added glue to the wrong side of the earrings to strengthen it .

I am working on a lot of cards but can't post until the end of this month. I am also trying to do my bit for our library's Navarathri Golu.

Thanks for stopping by , have a great day.

Quilled jewellery

This brooch I quilled as I was packing to go home for Christmas, it occurred to me that the blouse of my saree was too plain and it would do well with some embroidery, I don't have time for needle work now and quilling a brooch sounded like a good idea. I wanted more red on the brooch as I had to wear it on green background, but it turned out more green. Still I wore it and my mom thought it would make a nice pendant. I was also surprised that the brooch was quite sturdy even though I have not used tight coils.

This earring I made along with my valentine day card. It has the same design. I liked the folded rose inside the circle of tear drop shapes.

I decided to make some more quilled jewelry and this is what I had in mind for a long time. After I wound the crimped strip I applied a generous amount of glue on the other size of the earring . When the glue  dried the crimped strips had become quite stiff and kept its shape  well. I have used violet colour strips for this  one but looks more blue in this picture.

This is  a blue one , made with the basic quilling shapes , tear drop and round coil. I punched out small white circles from my card stock and stuck it behind the round coil.

Thanks for stopping by, have a great day.

inspired by Navarathri

For this Navarathri Golu I made  two golden lotuses , I made a miniature Madurai temple pond which has a golden lotus at the center. This card is inspired by that lotus and the golden stars are all punched from the paper I have used to make the lotus. I have also used the ribbon we used in our golu.

The pattern in the card made with combing technique is inspired by the lotus.I have made a pair of ear rings which goes with the card which will make a nice gift as well. This time it is inspire and create at craftyJC . Right now I can't think of anything but Navarathri and my card is inspired by all the glitters of Navarathri festival.

Thanks for stopping by, happy Navarathri.
